I bought it a year and a half ago. I meant to read it, I wanted to read it but somehow I always had other books waiting in line. Even Paco my cat wondered when I'd get to it. Normally it takes me forever to finish a book but I couldn't put this one down. I had to force myself to read only one chapter a night, otherwise the Shondaland magic would finish too quickly. I savored every story, every anecdote. Towards the end I was laughing in the middle and crying at the end of each chapter.
There are so many poignant moments in this book that I plan on rereading it with a highlighter next to me but for now I will quote two:
'When you feel the need to apologize or explain who you are, it means the voice in your head is telling you the wrong story. Wipe the slate clean. And rewrite it.
No fairy tales.
Be your own narrator.
And go for a happy ending.
One foot in front of the other.
You will make it.'
'I am on my own mountain standing in my own sun'
Thank you Shonda Rhimes. I am turning 2022 into my year of YES.
Everyone needs to read 'Year of Yes.' Paco agrees with me.
