Shiny New Murals
After three years, I came back to New York City last January to find four new, bright and shiny subway stops on the Second Avenue Line. The artists, Chuck Close, Sarah Sze, Vik Muniz and Jean Shin have created vibrant murals of a combination of ceramic, mosaic and glass artwork.
The figures seem to jump out of the walls. They're busy New Yorkers; living their lives as they wait along the station.
The detail of the stethoscope was so real I wanted to touch it.
My favorite was the sax player. I loved his outfit and the case he's carrying. If he had been real, I would have stayed to listen.
