To Hear or See Songs: That is the Question

The Man with the Child in his Eyes

While cleaning up my desk last week, I found a cassette tape of 'The Kick Inside,' Kate Bush's 1978 debut album. i bought it a few years later, when an easy way to listen to music was via walkman. One of my favorites is 'The Man with the Child in his Eyes.' She wrote it when she was just 13 years old and recorded it at 16. I used to listen to her beautiful, haunting voice over and over until I wore out the tape, daydreaming that this mysterious man would one day magically appear in my life:

'...Listening to a man I've never known before

Telling me about the sea, all his love is 'til eternity...'

It's surprising how different a song feels when you watch the music video version:

I appreciate Kate Bush's creativity, especially in the video below of 'Babooshka,' released in 1980, another of my favorites. Definitely ahead of her time.

Kate Bush has a whole new legion of fans, thanks to her song 'Running Up the Hill' in the series 'Stranger Things.'

Would you rather listen to or watch your favorite song?
